Wax on Water's members are producer, songwriter and singer Maya Damaris with Steven Blessing on Lead Guitar, Matt Boyes on Bass and Matt Chivers on Drums.
Hailing originally from Essex and then based in Camden, London, Damaris decided to form a band which would evoke the same intense feelings and inspiration that she had when listening to artists like David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Kate Bush, The Cure and Nine Inch Nails. Debut album Procession was initially released in 2017 and the resulting album acclaim led to it's re-release in 2018 and a worldwide distribution deal with The Orchard, a subsidiary of Sony Music.
In 2019, Damaris met guitarist Steven Blessing and drummer Matthew Chivers and the musical synergy was instant. The band drew inspiration from the great and the good; from bands past and present and from multiple genres – Electronica, Alternative and 70s rock, 90s grunge and industrial. On the follow up album The Drip their sound was taken to the next level with the addition of Blessing’s soaring layers of guitars, Chivers' dynamic drumming and Damaris’ unique writing and production style. Released in the summer of 2022 to universal critical acclaim and garnering US College radio success for the band, The Drip solidified Wax on Water’s place as rising stars of the alternative rock scene and was followed later that year by a Halloween EP entitled Ghouls & Fiends and In-Betweens... which featured the kind of dark melodic alternative rock gems that Wax on Water are known for.
Fast forward to 2023 and with the new addition of the talented multi-instrumentalist Matt Boyes on Bass Guitar, the band has created a potent musical brew that is, unquestionably, Wax on Water.
A new album is due for release in 2025.
